A 54-year-old bicyclist was seriously injured Friday in the 500 block of 16th Street after his bike collided with an SUV. Orange police reported Willie Grant was taken by Acadian Ambulance to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont with incapacitating injuries.

Police said the collision was about 1:30 p.m. Grant was riding his bicycle northbound in the turning lane. A Ford Expedition driven by a 45-year-old woman from Orange was traveling southbound in the outside lane.

According to police, Grant failed to yield the right-of-way to the SUV and turned into the traffic lane. His bike hit the front bumper of the Expedition. The collision made him fall off the bike onto the concrete roadway, injuring him.

Orange police arrested a man early Sunday morning at an apartment after his wife said he was on PCP and she awoke to find him standing over her holding a kitchen knife. She made a 9-1-1 call at 1:16 a.m. Sunday from apartments at 4030 Sikes Road.

The woman told officers she went to sleep about 11:20 p.m. on the couch in the living room. Her husband of about a year was in the bedroom. She said she felt the covers ripped off her and woke up. Her husband was standing over her with a kitchen knife and she was afraid he was going to kill her. He also held his hand around her throat but she managed to get free.

She said she ran outside and called 9-1-1 while her husband went back into the bedroom and pretended to sleep.

Three officers went inside and were concerned about the man being on PCP. However, he was arrested without problems and taken to the Orange County Jail on a Class A misdemeanor charge of family violence.
