Cops Monday ended up giving a buzz to a man who stole Busch beer from a dollar store. Orange Patrol Officer N.R. Medina reported he used his Taser shock gun to stop a man running toward a house after he jumped a fence into the yard.

Officer Medina said police were called at 2:49 p.m. to the Family Dollar at 1301 16th Street after the store reported a man left without paying. The officer said he saw a man with the description of the thief walking on the wrong side of 14th Street. The man wouldn’t stop after the officer used the emergency lights.

When the man started running, he dropped the bag. Cans of beer rolled out on the street. Officer Medina said he chased the man, who jumped over a fence in a residential neighborhood. The officer warned the man that he was going to use the shock pistol, but the man wouldn’t stop running toward the house.

The officer fired the Taser and the man was hit in the back. Officer Medina said the man fell to his knees and surrendered.

The store reported the man had taken two six packs of Busch worth a total of $11.98.

Police reported 44-year-old Roderick Demond Simmons faces a charge of theft with a previous conviction and evading arrest. He also had two arrest warrants issued for failure to appear in court.
