The new First State Bank building led construction during May in the city of Orange, according to building permits issued by the city. Contractors for the bank took out two permits for a total of nearly $3.5 million.
The building at 4039 Interstate 10 East at the corner with Martin Luther King Jr. Drive has a permit for a $1.74 million building. The site also has another $1.74 million permit for storm drainage. The new bank has been started by County Bancshares, Inc., led by local banker Carlos Vacek.
The City of Orange Economic Development Corporation has approved an investment of up to $175,000 to help the bank with infrastructure expenses. Last month, City Economic Development Director Jay Trahan said the EDC money will be used for thinks like extending sewer lines, installation of a sewer lift station and help with storm drainage and a retention pond.
The second largest permit in May went to First Baptist Church of Orange, 7637 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. The church received a permit for concrete work worth $226,500 to build a new parking lot.
Wheat Homes LLC and Cypresswood Village LLC had a permit to build a $163,672 house at 802 Cypresswood in the subdivision off Highway 87 South. It was the only permit for a new residence. However, four permits were issued for residential improvements valued at a total of $50,475.
Three businesses took out permits for improvements worth a total of $115,100. The largest was for $106,000 to replace siding at the International Apartments, 4750 Meeks Drive.
Community Church, 3400 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, took out a $40,000 permit for new fencing.
The Blue Beacon commercial truck wash company being build off Interstate 10 on Highway 62 had two permits issued. One was for $5,000 for a new irrigation system and $24,000 for the HVAC system.
Childs Building Supply on North 16th Street is also getting a HVAC system worth $13,000.
The city issued one permit for a house demolition. It was at 2219 Third Street.
