An Orange County grand jury has indicted a 52-year-old man for capital murder in connection with the stabbing deaths of an elderly Vidor couple in 2015.

District Attorney John Kimbrough Friday announced the indictment of Aaron Kyle Angelo. Angelo is a former stepson of victim 83-year-old Richard Ames. Ames and his longtime companion, 85-year-old Edna Phillips, were found murdered in a house in the Maplecrest neighborhood on June 11, 2015.

Then-Vidor Police Chief Dave Shows described the couple as “violently murdered” after their bodies were found.

Angelo was arrested on April 29, 2016, in connection with stealing Ames’ pickup truck the night of the murders. Vidor police reported the pickup was found wrecked in Houston.

Kimbrough said the indictment came after “a lengthy and complex investigation.” Besides the Vidor Police Department, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office and the Texas Rangers have worked on the case.

Angelo’s indictment will be before 163rd State District Judge Dennis Powell, who has set a $1 million bond.
