Orange police arrested two men, one who apparently was carrying a pistol, after getting a 911 call early Monday morning concerning men looking into windows of cars at an apartment complex on Meeks Drive.
German Chavez of Bridge City had six outstanding Bridge City Municipal Court warrants and was also arrested on misdemeanor charges of evading arrest and unlawfully carrying a firearm. Quinton Tezeno of Orange was arrested on one Orange Municipal Court warrant for driving without insurance.
Officer M.T. Roush said he and Officer Jana Goins went to the apartments at 3819 Meeks Drive about 4:15 a.m. He said the complex has had recent car burglaries and someone called about the two men looking into vehicle windows.
Office Goins stopped two men who matched the descriptions of the suspects. Roush said he noticed Chavez had a large bulge in his pants waistband under the hoodie he was wearing.
Police said Chavez started backing away. Officer Roush reported he grabbed Chavez by the arm and got out his duty Taser. Chavez pulled away and began to run. The officer said he missed the suspect with the Taser.
A person in the parking lot pointed police to a pickup truck and Roush said Chavez was hiding in the bed of the truck. The witness also told the officers he saw the man put something on the ground near a child’s bicycle. Roush reported he found a S&W .40 caliber handgun. The magazine had eight bullets, but the chamber was not loaded.
