The Pinehurst City Council approved Tuesday a nominee to fill a vacant seat on the council.  Alderman T. W. Permenter made the nomination of Cynthia Adams.

Permenter said he and fellow Alderman Dan Mohon had discussed nominating Adams to the position.  “She told me yesterday that she would consider it,” Permenter stated.

The nomination of Adams was unanimously approved by the council.  Adams did not attend the meeting Tuesday night, but City Attorney Tommy Gunn said if Adams does accept the nomination she could be sworn in at the next Pinehurst City Council meeting in November.  Adams would fill the unexpired term of former Alderman Dan Barclay who resigned from the council when he moved to the Corpus Christi area in August.

All of Orange County and much of coastal Texas is cleaning up following the flooding from Harvey.  The City of Pinehurst is no different, but according to at least one debris hauler Pinehurst is leading the way as far as serving their citizens during the recovery.

Larry Horn works as a contractor for Ashbritt and has been involved in the cleanup across the state including the Houston area.  Horn spoke to the Pinehurst City Council Tuesday to praise the cooperation and work being done by the city workers and the city administration in Pinehurst.

City Administrator Robbie Hood gave the City Council an update on debris removal following Harvey.  Hood informed the council that Pinehurst had obtained waivers from citizens to allow city workers permission to use small tractors to help push the debris on their properties to the right of way for removal.  Hood added, “I think they deserve that.”

Pinehurst Code Enforcement Officer Harry Vine encourages citizens in Pinehurst and anywhere in Orange County that sustained damage from Harvey to be careful in selecting a contractor to repair their home or business.  Vine recommended getting plenty of references on any contractor and make sure they are insured and bonded.
