Bridge City recognized churches and organizations that helped their neighbors during the days and weeks following Tropical Storm Harvey hitting this area. The City Council presented certificates of appreciation to pastors and representatives of nine churches and organizations during its meeting Tuesday night.
Council woman Lucy Fields expressed the thankfulness of all those in attendance. Fields said she had driven around Bridge City the days after the storm. She saw pastors and members working long hours without rest helping others with food, clothing, supplies, and shelter. “I’ve never been so proud to be a member of a city as I am at this time,” Fields praised.
Also recognized were the employees of the Bridge City Municipal Court as this has been proclaimed Municipal Court Week. Judge Bill Dixon, Associate Judge Ida Schossow, City Prosecutor Paul Fukuda, and Deputy Court Clerk Terri Ballenger received a proclamation honoring their service to the city.
City Secretary Sherry Tisdale was thanked for her excellent service to Bridge City. November marks 30 years of Tisdale working for the city.
The Romero well is still on hold before the filtering system can be activated on it. City Manager Jerry Jones informed the council that the state requested additional information about the well which is one of three in Bridge City. The other two wells do have the filter systems activated.
Repairs to one of two man-holes that were leaking badly have been completed. The city contracted for the repair of a man-hole on East Roundbunch. The work on the Regal Point man-hole has begun, but is not completed yet.
The City Council approved casting all 82 of the city’s votes for Tim Schossow to serve on the Orange County Appraisal District’s Board of Directors. There are six candidates seeking to fill the five positions on the board.
Introduced during the meeting was Nolan Moore who will be a non-voting member on the council. Nolan is a member of the student council at Bridge City High School and was selected to be their representative on the City Council. When asked if there were any issues he would like the City Council to address, Moore said there is a need for sidewalks in the city especially on Texas Avenue where many students walk to and from school.
