Former County Judge and current mayor of Pinehurst Pete Runnels had indicated previously he was running for County Judge next year. Runnels said Thursday evening recent events have caused him to change his mind about running for that office.
The Pinehurst Mayor said he seriously considered running for county judge until Harvey flooded his home with three feet of water. Three months after the storm Runnels still has not seen a contractor to do rebuild his house. His wife is in a nursing home which means he needs to be available for her. Runnels expressed, “The response I’ve gotten made me so proud to be a part of Orange County, and I’m so appreciative.”
Runnels is serving his sixth term as the Mayor of Pinehurst. He indicated on Thursday he may not run for re-election when his current term expires, but after receiving so much positive feedback from his constituents Runnels has reversed that decision. “I’m proud to be here, and I want to tell you thank you, I hope I can do a good job for you,” Runnels professed.
