Orange police had to pull a man from under bushes on Bob Hall Road early Wednesday morning after he tried to run away from a traffic stop. A patrol officer said the man drove an SUV off 16th Street across a grassy area and then jumped out of the vehicle, which then traveled into a ditch.
The officer reported he saw a Chevrolet Suburban traveling without lights on 16th Street shortly before midnight. The officer turned on his emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop. However, the SUV would not stop. When the vehicle turned eastward into the grassy field, the officer turned on the sirens. The vehicle still did not stop.
The driver was losing control of the SUV, with the rear sliding. The SUV went toward the railroad tracks and Bob Hall Road when the driver jumped out with the vehicle still traveling.
The man ran through one ditch, then across the railroad tracks and the ditch on the other side. The officer said he found the man lying on his stomach under a bush. The man’s hands were under his torso, so the officer drew his gun. Still, the man would not come out. Other officers arrived and pulled the man out.
