OC Health Inspections for May

Orange County Health Inspector James Scales went to 31 food service businesses during May. Here are the reports:

Cypress Plaza, 7014 North Highway 87 in Orange: Inspector pulled several expired foods from shelves. Slime was inside ice machine. Dates were needed on products, including sandwiches, inside cooler. Drinks were stored on the floor inside the walk-in cooler-storage room. Back storage room needed to be cleaned and organized. Unused equipment needed to be discarded. Floors inside walk-in cooler needed to be cleaned of old foods. Paper towels were needed inside employee restroom. Current health inspection report was not visible. Store cannot sell homemade tamales.

CVS Pharmacy, 2425 North 16th Street in Orange: 95. Inspector pulled several expired foods from shelves. Outside of equipment and storage shelves inside the milk cooler needed to be cleaned of old foods. Paper towels were needed inside employee restroom.

Sonic Drive-In, 2210 Highway 62 South in Orange: 87. Several drink machines were collecting water on the outside of machine making possible contamination of drinks. Inspector closed several of the machines until repairs to air conditioner were made. Water was dripping from faucets and walk-in collar motor. Hand-washing station did not have cold water and temperature was 148.4 degrees. Employee was using a cell phone. Outside of fryers needed to be cleaned of old grease. Walls needed to be cleaned.

Walmart Baker, 3115 Edgar Brown Drive in West Orange: 91. Inspector pulled several outdated foods from reach-in freezer. Foot pedals at hand-washing station were not working properly. Paper towels were needed at hand-washing station. Walk-in freezer door had build-up of ice and was not closing properly.

Walmart Grocery, 3115 Edgar Brown Drive in West Orange: 93. Inspector pulled several expired foods from shelves. Water at hand-washing stations was 158 degrees with no cold water available for proper hand washing. Several gnats were in the produce department. Floors and shelves inside the milk cooler needed to be cleaned of old foods.

Chevron Food Mart, 2323 Lutcher Drive in Orange: 88. Inspector pulled several expired foods from shelves. Mold was on slush machines. Paper towels were needed inside employee restroom. reach-in cooler doors were holding water and needed to be repaired. Drinks were stored on the floor inside the walk-in cooler and on sales floor. Ceiling tiles were missing or molded throughout the store. Floors and storage shelves needed to be cleaned. Inspector “found store very dirty and unorganized.” He recommended “lots of cleaning.”

Texas Food Store, 305 Burton Avenue in Orange: 78. Inspector pulled several expired foods from shelves. The three-compartment sinks were filled with water and not draining. Employee restroom did not have hot water. Store name and address were needed on bags of ice being sold. The walk-in cooler was holding water on the floor. Paper towels were needed inside employee restroom. Spider webs were throughout the store. Drinks were stored on the flood inside the walk-in cooler. Shelves inside the walk-in cooler had black mold. Inspector ordered store to pull the shelves and sanitize them. Light shields were needed. Employee restroom and storage room did not have lights. Trash was in parking lot. Inspector said “entire store needed to be cleaned and sanitized,” including floors, walls and equipment. Employee restroom needed to be cleaned and supplied. Current health report was not posted in front of the store. Inspector said follow-up visits are required.

Burger King, 605 North Main Street in Vidor: 99. The inside of the reach-in freezers needed to be cleaned of old foods. Inspector reported “lots of improvement with cleaning and maintenance” at the store.

Novrozsky’s, 1035 North Main Street in Vidor: 84. Mold was inside the ice machine. Ice scoop was on top of ice machine. Chemicals were stored improperly on storage shelves. Store employees did not have food handler certificates. Dates were needed on products inside coolers. Employee drinks were stored improperly. Needed to have a lid and straw on all employee drinks. Employee had a nose ring. Wiping cloths were stored on the prep table instead of in sanitizing buckets. Vent-a-Hood and outside of all equipment needed to be cleaned of old foods. Current food service permit, food manager certificates, and current health inspection were not posted in front of restaurant.

Fast Stop Food Store, 2410 Texas Avenue in Bridge City: 96. Gasket on reach-in freezer was damaged. Employee restroom toilet was broken. Outside back door needed to be cleaned. Old equipment needed to be discarded.

Judice’s Cajun Cafe, 2045 Texas Avenue in Bridge City: 92. Sanitizing buckets were stored on prep table. Reach-in cooler was not keeping proper temperatures. Employee drinks were stored improperly on prep table and coolers. Storage shelves, equipment, floors, light shields, air returns and vents, plus ceiling tiles needed to be cleaned of old foods.

The Crawfish Boys Seafood, several bars in Orange. Scales made a pre-inspection for selling crawfish at local bars.

Star Stop, 1104 Burton Avenue in Orange: 91. Store had new construction and storage room was not completely sealed. Ice scoop was on top of ice machine. Used personal shirts, shorts, and men’s underwear were inside the three-compartment sink. Drinks were stored on the floor. Current health inspection report was not posted in front of store. Light shields were needed.

El Autentico Taco, 2215 Texas Avenue in Bridge City. Inspector made pre-opening inspection.

Dairy Queen, 11785 North Highway 62 in Mauriceville: 97. Inspector found lots of flies throughout the restaurant. Vent-a-Hood area needed to be cleaned of old grease. Outside back door area needed to be cleaned. Unused equipment needed to be discarded.

Get-N-Go, 1150 Texas Avenue in Bridge City: 88. Inspector pulled several expired foods from shelves. Mold and slime were inside ice machine. Dates were needed on products. Wiping cloths were stored improperly on top of the county. Drinks were stored on the floor. Floors inside the walk-in cooler and inside machines needed to be cleaned of old foods. Current health inspection report was not posted in front of the store.

Tacos Don Guicho Y Su, 3900 16th Street. Pre-opening inspection.

Vidor City Pool in Conn Park, 164 South Street in Vidor. 100

Lakeview Exxon, 4315 North Main Street in Vidor: 78. Inspector pulled several expired foods from shelves. Ice scoop was on top of rolling cart. No certified food manager certificates were posted. Employee did not have a food handler certificate. Dates were needed on products, including sandwiches. Paper towels were needed at the hand-washing station. Back door needed to be sealed because it had a one-inch opening. Hair restraints were needed. Drinks were stored on the floor. Vent-a-Hood needed to be cleaned of old foods. Inside of walk-in cooler and freezers needed to be cleaned of old foods. Floors needed to be cleaned and damaged tiles needed to be repaired. Several damaged ceiling tiles were throughout store. Employee restrooms needed to be cleaned and paper towels were needed in both restrooms. Hand-washing signs were needed at hand-washing stations.

Orange County Preschool, 14938 Interstate 10 East in Vidor: 100.

Ming’s Buffet, 840 North Main Street in Vidor: 83. Hand-washing station did not have soap, so employees were not properly washing their hands. Bare hands were coming in contact with ready-to-eat foods. Employees did not have food-handler certificates. Dates were needed on products inside coolers and freezers. Soap was needed at the hand-washing station. Several flies were found and improper fly traps were handing from ceiling. Employee drinks were stored improperly. Foods were stored on the floor inside the walk-in freezer. Vents, Vent-a-Hood and equipment throughout needed to be cleaned of old foods. Floors, walls and back storage room needed to be cleaned and organized. Bags of flour in the back storage room needed to be closed. Foods needed to be covered. Foods needed to be properly stored inside coolers and freezers. Broken and unused equipment needed to be discarded.
