The Commissioners Court will decide next Tuesday whether Orange County will provide its own janitorial workers or will go to a new commercial janitorial company to clean the Courthouse and other county buildings. During a budget workshop Thursday, the Court discussed how much it would cost for the county to hire employees to clean the buildings of county government compared to hiring a commercial company to do it.
Commissioners voted last month to give a 90-days’ notice to Members Building Maintenance that its services would no longer be needed. Human Resources Director Lori Ardoin attended the workshop and asked the Court to consider which option the county would use next fiscal year.
Ardoin’s concern was the time necessary to post the positions and to fill them if the Commissioners Court votes to go to in-house janitorial. If the Court decides to go out for bids for commercial janitorial companies that bid process would take time too.
County Judge Dean Crooks asked Ardoin to submit two agenda items for next week’s Commissioners Court meeting. The first would be a vote on whether the county will use in-house janitors or go with a commercial company. The second item would be requesting Ardoin to post the positions and seek applications if the Commissioners vote to go with in-house janitors. The Commissioners Court will meet at 2:00 PM on Tuesday in the Commissioners Courtroom of the Administration Building.
