A jury this week decided a 61-year-old man should spend 50 years in prison for the continuous sexual abuse of a six-year-old girl.
The jury first found Charles Edward Burke guilty of the charges and then decided on the punishment. The trial was in 163rd State District Court before Judge Dennis Powell.
Assistant District Attorney Krispen Walker said evidence showed Burke sexually abused the girl between November 2015 and March 2016. He was living with the girl’s family in North Vidor and was a relative of the child’s stepfather.
Walker said the punishment for the crime carried 25 years to life in prison. Burke will not be able to get parole, she said.
