The final budget workshop on Thursday has helped finalize the numbers for next year’s budget in Bridge City. City Manager Jerry Jones said the budget shows an increase over the current year’s.
The 2018-19 budget will be $8,223,772. This year’s budget was over $7.8 million. Capital outlay for next year includes the purchase of two police cars and two trucks for public works. All the city employees in Bridge City will get a 3 percent pay raise next year.
The city manager pointed out the taxable property values in Bridge City have dropped by about six million dollars from last year. This is one of the factors leading to a proposed slight increase in the tax rate according to Jones. He stated the proposed tax rate for next year will be $0.547 per 100 dollars value, up from $0.52 this year.
Jones concluded that the good work by the City Council at Thursday’s workshop has allowed the cancellation of the remaining three budget workshops. The only remaining steps are to call and hold the required public hearings before the budget is approved.
