A preliminary budget for Orange County has been compiled for next year. The more than sixty-page document shows a budget of over 46 million dollars. The proposed budget was calculated with the same proposed tax rate of $0.542 per 100 dollars value as this year.
County Judge Dean Crooks said this is just the first draft and may not be the final budget for the coming year. The budget is a work in progress and does have a deficit which the Commissioners Court will need to get rid of it with the savings the county has.
An effort was done to get the figures more accurate than several preliminary budgets have been in the past according to Crooks. He does not anticipate any more workshops over the next two months before the budget is approved. “I think that will give people a better idea of where we’re going and get them used to the idea before we get there,” Crooks concluded.
Copies of the budget will be provided for all the department heads at the Orange County Courthouse to help them further prepare their plans for next year. Copies of the budget are available at the County Clerk’s office at the Courthouse for the public.
