The City of Orange is preparing to sell the old fire station on MacArthur Drive next to Lions City Park.
The city’s Planning and Zoning Commission will meet Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. to vote to declare the property as city surplus. In a memo, City Planning Director Kelvin Knauf said city rules require the commission and the city council to declare property as surplus before the city can sell or trade real estate.
The building and site, which is almost half an acre, was originally Fire Station No. 3. The city built a new No. 3 station 20 years ago. Most recently, the building was used by the parks maintenance department.
Knauf said the department is now at the Armory Building on Meeks Drive and no city departments have a need for the MacArthur Drive building.
The public meeting will be in the council auditorium next to the Orange Public Library.
