The National Weather Service says a tropical depression or tropical storm could form in the eastern Gulf of Mexico on Monday or Tuesday. The preliminary forecast track brings it to southeast Louisiana by Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. After landfall, the system will weaken, but weak steering currents will keep the remnants in our region through the end of the week.
This system has the potential to be a heavy rain producer through the end of the week across southeast Texas and Louisiana. Three to eight inches will be common, but some locations could see sixteen inches or more through the end of the week. Where the highest rain totals will occur is still uncertain.
