Assistant District Attorney Krispen Walker organized a walk Thursday to mark National Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office ran a warrant round-up on people wanted for domestic assault.
Sheriff’s Investigator Janois Grizzaffi said five people were arrested with a total of 19 charges against them, most for assault or family violence.
Grizzaffi also is asking for the public to help find 32-year-old Allen Len Coleman. He is wanted for probation violations for a felony family violence conviction in 2017. He is described as black, 5-feet-8-inches tall and about 145 pounds. His last know location was off Western Avenue in West Orange. Anyone with information about him should contact the Orange County Sheriff’s Office at 409-883-2612, or Crimestoppers at 409-833-TIPS.
District Attorney John Kimbrough told the gathered group that drunken driving was not considered serious until Mothers Against Drunk Drivers rallied to stop the deaths from the crime.
He said it’s time for domestic violence to not be acceptable. “We need to work and try to do something to stop it,” he said.
Walker said domestic violence is passed down generation to generation. Statistics show that one in three Texans have experienced domestic violence in their lifetime.
In 2016, 146 women in Texas were killed by their domestic partners. Walker said some were trying to leave the relationship or had already left.
Orange County in 2015 had 522 domestic violence cases reported. Walker said most domestic assaults are not reported.
