Wednesday was the first day for candidates to file for municipal elections which will be held in May. The City of West Orange had one incumbent file and another announce she was not running for re-election.
Mayor Roy McDonald was the first to file with City Secretary Theresa Van Meter Wednesday morning. McDonald has served as the mayor of West Orange since 1995.
Longtime member of the City Council in West Orange Dr. Frances Droddy-Lopez has stated she is not going to run for another term. Droddy-Lopez has served on the council for about 14 years since 2001.
The other position on the ballot will be the seat of Randy Branch who was appointed to the council in July. Branch was selected to fill the seat of Carl Thibodeaux who resigned his council seat to take the position of Municipal Judge in West Orange.
City Secretary Debbie Cormier in Pinehurst said no one filed on the first day there. Jeanie McDowell the City Secretary of Bridge City had no filings on Wednesday.
In Orange, District 2 incumbent Brad Childs filed to run for his position on city council.
Candidates for all of the municipal and school board elections on May 4, 2019 have until 5:00 PM on Friday, February 15, to file with the appropriate city secretary or school secretary.
