A man under a murder indictment for a 2015 stabbing death is now in the Orange County Jail and will have a trial date set.
61-year-old Roland Kaderli Jr. is accused of stabbing his stepson to death in the backyard of a house in the Old Orange Historic District.
Kaderli was brought to Orange Tuesday from a state prison, where he is serving 30 years after a Liberty County conviction of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and felony driving while intoxicated.
Orange police were called to 703 10th Street about 9 p.m. on September 20, 2015, after neighbors heard a woman screaming for help. 30-year-old Jamey Myers had been stabbed during an argument.
Police at the time said Myers was stabbed twice with a folding pocket knife. Officers did not arrest anyone at the time because the stabbing may have been a case of self defense. They said they would put together a case for a grand jury to decide.
Orange County District Attorney John Kimbrough said OPD investigators gave the evidence in the case to his office in February 2017 and a grand jury indicted Kaderli for murder the next month.
By that time, Kaderli had been convicted of the felony charges from Liberty County and was in state prison.
His murder case has been assigned to the 128th State District Court in Orange County, but a trial date has not been set.
