The City Council in Bridge City got a preliminary look Thursday at the city’s budget for next fiscal year. An hour workshop was held for the council during which each member received binder detailing the proposed budget.
City Manager Jerry Jones summarized the approximately $8.5 million budget for Bridge City. “We’re looking at buying a small amount of equipment, the tax rate is going to increase a very, very small amount, but overall the budget should be a very good budget,” Jones emphasized.
The budget will increase about $330 thousand more than this year’s budget. Jones estimated the tax rate will go up slightly from 54.7 cents per 100 dollars value to 55.35 cents.
The City Council was asked to review the details of the budget in their binders over the weekend and be ready to discuss any changes at the next workshop. The workshop for this evening has been cancelled. The next one is scheduled for Monday with another also set for Tuesday. Both will be at 6:00 PM in the City Hall.
