A 27-year-old man who had three misdemeanor traffic warrants is now facing a state jail felony charge for evading police Wednesday night.

The chase in vehicles and on foot went from 16th Street through the Craig Homes neighborhood. Fence jumping took the chase into the Charlemont subdivision where the man was found hiding under a car.

Officer N.R. Medina reported he was patroling on 16th Street about 11:45 p.m. when he saw a car turn left onto 16th without stopping at a stop sign. The officer put on his flashing lights to stop the driver, but the car turned abruptly onto Barkins Street.

Medina said he saw the driver making furtive movements, so he turned on the sirens. The vehicle chase went through the residential streets west of 16th Street and through the Craig Homes apartments.

The man turned the car into a driveway, got out and began running. Medina said the fleeing man jumped a wooden fence and then the fence into the subdivision.

Medina found the man hiding under a parked vehicle on Monterrey Street. The man voluntarily came out to be handcuffed.

Medina reported the Orange County Jail would not accept the arrestee because he had low blood pressure. Orange police drove him to the Medical Center of Southeast Texas in Port Arthur to be medically cleared. Then the man was driven back and the jail accepted him.

Roderick Demond Simmons of Orange is facing the charge for evading arrest, a state jail felony. Police reported he had warrants for unpaid fines for no driver’s license, unregistered vehicle, and running a stop sign, all Class C misdemeanors.

A man trying to sell his Apple Watch through social media ended up the victim of an armed robbery Wednesday night.

The robbery was about 9 p.m. by the Linkwood Apartments on Link Avenue near 16th Street. Orange Detective Captain Robert Enmon said the man had advertised the watch on social media and had arranged to meet with someone who wanted to buy it.

Instead, the seller was threatened with a handgun. He gave the Apple Watch and the wallet to the robber, who then left. +
