Orange police thought an assault and kidnapping had happened the afternoon of Oct. 3. Instead, a traveling dispute in a vehicle led to a search in Mauriceville woods for a woman who was safe.

Detective Captain Robert Enmon said the incident started with an argument among two men and a woman in a vehicle traveling on Interstate 10 in Louisiana. The vehicle exited in Orange and went north on 16th Street before turning onto FM 3247 East.

Police were called about 1:15 p.m. to a stabbing on Sandalwood Drive, which leads off FM 3247 into the Cypress Bayou neighborhood. Enmon said a man, who had gotten out of the vehicle, had a small knife cut on his neck.

However, the man did not give police a full story of what had happened and did not answer questions. Enmon said detectives worried that the woman in the vehicle had been kidnapped. When they couldn’t reach her, they searched woods.

After a couple of hours, they found out where she had been. She was safe with the other man who had been in vehicle. Enmon said neither would cooperate with giving detectives information.

The woman had arrest warrants for misdemeanor offenses. She was arrested and taken to the Orange County Jail.
