The city of Orange is continuing its annual plan to demolish dilapidated houses that have been abandoned.
The city council has approved a contract to demolish 11 dilapidated houses. Public Works Director Jim Wolf said C&C Works, Inc., was the only one of three bidders that met all the qualifications for the project. The contract is for $53,300 and the money is coming from the federal Community Development Block Grant program.
The houses have all gone through the condemnation process through the Orange Municipal Court. The addresses are 2412 McKee Drive, 1720 Church Avenue, 1512 Chapman Street, 2313 Eighth Street, 601 North Street, 1215 Third Street, 105 Orange Avenue, 2319 Riverside Drive, 3862 Cochran Street, 405 Arkansas Street, and 904 South Arkansas Street.
The city has also allocated $200,000 in the 2019-20 budget year to tear down the old Cove School on DuPont Drive, but a contract for the demolition has not been made at this time.
