Orange County Health Inspector James Scales has reported health inspection scores for the months of September, October, and November.
Scales reported scores of 100 at most of the schools he inspected. The schools were Pine Forest Elementary in Vidor, Vidor Junior High, Vidor Elementary, Oak Forest in Vidor, Vidor High, Orangefield Elementary, Orangefield Junior High, Orangefield High, Bridge City Intermediate, Bridge City Elementary, Bridge City Middle, West Orange-Stark High, North Early Learning Center, West Orange-Stark Middle, Little Cypress Intermediate, Little Cypress Junior High, Little Cypress Elementary, Mauriceville school kitchen, and Little Cypress-Mauriceville High.
Scales closed a dry storage room at West Orange-Stark Elementary until mold was cleaned from the wall. He reported the school district had been asked for more than a year to correct the problem. Even with the mold, the school still had a 97.
Scales also inspected three Orange church soup kitchens and gave no score. The soup kitchens are at Mount Sinai Bpatist, 1113 Second Street; First Presbyterian, 902 Green Avenue, and St. Mary Catholic 812 Cherry Avenue.
Pre-opening inspections with no scores were given to Brewitas in Bridge City, Panthers Den Pre-School in Mauriceville (after Imelda repairs), Jennifer Ortego in Vidor, and Gator Cafe in Orange.
Other scores and demerits are:
Texas Seafood and Steakhouse, 1855 Texas Avenue in Bridge City: 84. Raw chicken, raw pork chops, and raw shelled eggs were not at proper safe temperatures. Raw foods were left out on counter and not inside coolers. Foods inside coolers needed to be covered. Dates were needed on foods in coolers and freezers. Wal-in freezer door was not closing all the way. Employee drinks were stored improperly. Foods were stored on the floors inside coolers and freezers. Fish and shrimp were defrosting improperly. Vent-a-Hood needed to be cleaned. Floors needed to be cleaned. A cot and TV were inside the dry storage room and needed to be removed.
Brick Oven Pizza, 1125 Texas Avenue in Bridge City: 84. Black mold was along a wall and on several air vents and ceiling tiles above food prep area. Inspector said the mold situation needed to be fixed immediately. Foods inside coolers needed to be covered. White cutting boards were turning black because they had not been cleaned properly. Dates were needed on foods inside coolers and freezers. Water was on the bottom shelf of the reach-in cooler. Foods were stored in open metal containers. Storage shelves and containers needed to be cleaned. Floors, walls, and ceilings needed to be cleaned of old foods and dirt. Current food service permit and all certiied food manager certificates needed to be posted in front. Inspector recommended “lots of cleaning” at the restaurant.
Quick Stop, 4208 Western Avenue in West Orange: 85. Inspector pulled several expired foods from shelves. Molded bread was on the sales floor. Slight mold was on drink dispensers. Employees workng did not have food handler certificates. Dates were needed on products inside coolers and freezers. Employee food and drinks were not stored properly. Utensils needed to be stored handle up in the container.
Rikenjacks, 18635 Interstate 10 in Vidor: 90. Hamburger patties were not at proper safe temperatures. Foods inside coolers and freezers needed to be covered and dated. Raw fish was stored above produce inside the reach-in cooler. Meats were defrosting inside container at the three-compartment sink. Handwasing signes were needed at all handwashing stations. Bottom of back door needed to be sealed.
IB Cheapers, 11365 Highway 12 in Mauriceville: 92. Inspector pulled several expired foods from shelves. Mold was on drink dispensers and inside ice machine. Store name and address were needed on bags of ice being sold.
Lon’s Seafood, 2507 MacArthur Drive in West Orange: 92. Products on shelves had been eaten by a mouse. Inspector required all products to be discarded. Mice feces were in the back storage room. Inspector said storage room needed to be cleaned and organized. Foods insde the reach-in freezers needed to be covered.
Happy Donuts, 1081 North Main Street in Vidor: 94. Sausage and boudain were not at proper safe temperatues. Dates were needed on products inside coolers and freezers. Spider webs were throughout store.
Family Dollar, 2751 16th Street in Orange: 95. Paper towels were needed inside employee restroom. Foods were stored on the floor in the back storage room. Back storage room needed to be cleaned and organized. Current food service permit and current health inspection report not posted in front.
