A widespread power outage about 10 p.m. Thursday affected about 4,800 Entergy customers, mostly in Pinehurst and the Little Cypress-Mauriceville area. The outage came as the temperature in the early morning dropped to 33 degrees.
Neighborhoods had power restored throughout the night, but at 5 a.m., 1,800 houses were in the dark. At 10 Friday morning, about 550 customers still did not have power.
Little Cypress-Mauriceville schools delayed start times one hour to accommodate the students. Schools did not lose electricity and faculty and staff went to work at regular times.
Jim Malain, Orange County Entergy service manager, said a problem developed on the transmission line between the Echo and Cordrey Avenue substations. A feeder breaker had to be opened up at Echo.
