The Commissioners Court met Tuesday with two of its members out-of-town attending mandatory education classes. County Judge John Gothia and Commissioner Johnny Trahan were gone.
The other three Commissioners had a short meeting of just over thirty minutes. Maintenance Director Kurt Guidry had good news to start the meeting giving an update on recovery from the Natural Disaster Imelda. Guidry informed that the Raymond Gould Community Center in Vidor has been repaired and should be ready for full use by Wednesday, February 12.
Similar good news followed on the Claiborne West Park that has been renovated since it was damaged by Tropical Storm Harvey over two years ago. Guidry reported there are just a few minor details to finish and the repairs to the office at the park will be done. It should be open for business by Wednesday, February 12.
The pavilions at the park are all completed. There are still some water leaks which have been hard to find only because of the wet conditions caused by the weather. Water has been turned on to all the pavilions. All the toilets and urinals are working.
Four more hand dryers need to be installed for the final step. The portable restrooms will be removed when the office is ready to begin taking renovations again for the use of the pavilions.
Flooring for the Commissioner’s office building on Highway 62 in Mauriceville was being put in on Tuesday which is expected to curb any further mold developing in the building. Guidry said after the floor is installed, they will do test for any more mold in the building. Crews have been able to circulate air in the building and there does not appear to be any new mold in the structure.
The Commissioners approved entering into an agreement with Gov-Pay to allow Orange County fee offices to process credit and debit card transactions. This system will be used shortly at several county offices including the Citizens’ Collection Station at the county landfill.
Clark Slacum whose Road and Bridge Department oversees the landfill reminded that the Citizens’ Collection Station will begin charging fees again on Tuesday, March 3. Starting that date, the landfill will be open to the public on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 AM to 6 PM and on Saturdays from 7 AM to 5 PM.
Guidry mentioned during his monthly Maintenance Department report that his department will be shifting operations to work on the Administration Building. They will use trustees from the Sheriff’s Office to rip up carpet and begin remodeling the back portion of the building. Renovations to the Sheriff Sub-Station in Vidor will also be in the works for the coming weeks.
Two bids were received by Purchasing Agent Connie Cassidy for three crew-cab pickup trucks for the Road and Bridge Department. None of the bids were from local car dealers. The three Commissioners present at Tuesday’s meeting decided to table awarding the contract for the trucks until next week when Cassidy hopefully would be able to attend the meeting and a full Commissioners Court would be present.
