On Wednesday, February 12, 2020, the Vidor Police Department Dispatch Center received a call at approximately 6:04 PM in reference to a major accident in the 5800 Block of Hwy 12 in Vidor. The caller advised that two individuals had been ejected from the vehicle including a child.
Chief Rod Carroll said the investigation showed that a vehicle was traveling east bound in the 5800 block of Hwy. 12 when it exited the roadway and pulled to the shoulder to pick up an individual that was walking along the roadway. The individual jumped into the bed of the pick-up truck. The pick-up truck attempted to make a U-turn crossing the path of the second vehicle that was traveling eastbound on Hwy. 12. At this time both vehicles collided. An 11 year child was ejected through the passenger rear window. The man in the bed of the truck was also ejected. Both passengers landed in the mud which appears to of decreased the seriousness of their injuries. Three individuals from the vehicle including the driver were transported by Acadian Ambulance Service to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the second vehicle and sole occupant refused transport to the hospital.
