The City of West Orange is in a good financial situation.  The City Council on Monday heard the audit for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2019.  Accountant Curtis Craig presented the audit which included an increased fund balance for the city.

The city was budgeted to spend approximately $3.7 million that fiscal year, but only spent about $2.9 million.  “That is the majority of the reason why your fund balance increased what it did because you spent nearly $800,000 less than what you planned to spend which is a good thing,” Craig informed.  Craig added that the city’s ending fund balance for the year is $5,368,871.

Mayor Roy McDonald thanked City Secretary Theresa Van Meter and her staff for their excellent job in keeping West Orange’s finances in such great shape.  “Certainly, the way it happened this year you all did an over and above job, thank you.” McDonald replied.

The mayor announced at the conclusion of the meeting that rentals of the West Orange Community Center are suspended until further notice.  The reason given was the suggestion of not allowing meetings or gatherings of more than 10 people because of the concern over the spread of the Coronavirus.

The next meeting of the West Orange City Council will be moved back one week in April to the third Monday to allow for Spring Break.  The meeting is scheduled for April 20 at 5:00 PM in the West Orange Community Center.
