The Commissioners Court met for about an hour Friday. They discussed positions in the county that might be eligible for reclassification which could mean an increase in pay for those positions.
County Judge Brint Carlton indicates 21 positions are being considered for an increase in classification by the Court. Carlton stated, “On Tuesday is when we’re going to take our final vote on any of these if any of these are going ultimately to be selected for reclassification.”
Two department heads spoke to the Commissioners about reclassifying positions in their departments. Karen Fisher said the position she will be vacating in January as the head of the Vidor Tax Office is more substantial than being classified as a clerk’s position. Fisher will replace the retiring Lynda Gunstream as the County Tax Assessor-Collector next year.
District Clerk Vickie Edgerly asked that her two chief deputies be reclassified considering they help oversee 11 district and county courts. The chief clerks were lowered in classification from exempt to non-exempt in late June which meant a pay cut of about $10,000 annually for both. Edgerly requested the Court at least consider an increase in pay for the two chief deputies even if they are not returned to exempt status.
