About 25 persons attended the community focus group Thursday sponsored by the Orange County Economic Development Corporation (EDC). This was the second such strategic planning session this week for the EDC.
Jessica Hill the executive director of the EDC was joined by her mentor Jim Rich the former president of the Beaumont Chamber of Commerce in facilitating the meeting. Rich explained that economic development can be like a track meet. Sometimes it takes the speed of the sprinter to get a potential business to your area, and other times it is like a long distance runner when it may take years to develop a situation into a positive economic impact.
The group of community leaders that gathered included officials from Orange County, the cities of Orange, Bridge City, and Pine Forest. The group discussed Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats that must be addressed by Orange County that will influence future economic development.
Hill indicated the last strategic plan for the EDC was developed in 2006. She plans to take the input from the two focus groups this week to prepare a new strategic plan for the Orange County Economic Development Corporation.
