A very short meeting of Commissioners Court was conducted Monday morning. The change in meeting days from Tuesday to Monday was to allow two Commissioners to attend training later this week.
Commissioners approved a resolution certifying that the county will contribute actual funds to be used in a grant for the Orange County Meals on Wheels program this year. County Judge Brint Carlton explained the change by the county in funding the program that distributes meals for free to seniors and disabled citizens in Orange County. Judge Carlton said the county had been giving $40,000 in kind with the use of drivers and fuel to the program. Beginning this year the county will contribute $40,000 to Meals on Wheels which will be used for a Texans Feeding Texans grant that doubles the donated funds for the program. Carlton concluded, “That should take care of their budget issues.”
The Commissioners approved a line item transfer for $40,000 that will provide the funding to Meals on Wheels. The Court wanted to also donate four vans from the county’s Transportation Department to Meals on Wheels, but Assistant County Attorney Doug Manning was called away from the meeting so the item was tabled until next week to allow Manning the opportunity to advise the Commissioners on donating the vans.
In other business the Court approved a proclamation recognizing this as National 4-H Week in Texas. Sierra Hutchinson and Dillon Pyatt are with 4-H. They both spoke to the Commissioners about the many benefits of the 4-H program. The Orange County Livestock Show and auction will be this Friday and Saturday at the Mauriceville Fairgrounds off of Highway 62. Members of 4-H and Future Farmers of America will be displaying and selling their livestock at the show.
