A pizza deliveryman had his pickup truck stolen Wednesday night when he was at the front door of a house. Orange police soon found the truck and returned it to the owner and a 42-year-old woman ended up in the Orange County Jail.
Police reported the 26-year-old man from Papa John’s Pizza made a delivery about 10:30 p.m. to a house in the 900 block of John Avenue. He told police he was at the front door and two women left. During the sale transaction, he heard his truck being driven away. Immediately, he called police.
A patrol officer saw the truck by a house in the 2300 block of Riverside Drive and stopped the driver. The deliveryman looked through the truck and found nothing missing; so his truck was returned.
Police arrested Charlotte Marie Moses for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. The charge is a state jail felony with a punishment of 180 days to two years in a state jail plus a maximum $10,000 fine.
A 52-year-old man stopped for speeding now faces a charge of tampering with evidence after he tried to toss off a glass crack pipe and it broke when it hit concrete.
Orange Patrol Officer M.C. Bernard reported he stopped a Toyota sedan traveling 55 miles per hour on 16th Street where the speed limit is 40 mph. The stop was at 12:50 a.m. Wednesday near Inwood Drive.
Officer Bernard reported he and the sedan turned onto the 1600 block of Inwood for the traffic stop. After having the man get out of the car, the officer saw the man make a throwing motion. Then the officer heard glass break on a concrete driveway.
The officer reported he found a broken small glass cylinder pipe used to smoke crack cocaine. The 52-year-old man was arrested for tampering or destroying evidence plus driving without a license. The tampering charge could be a Class A misdemeanor with a punishment of up to a year in the county jail and a maximum fine of $4,000.
