A man called Orange police Saturday night to report he had been kidnapped and robbed at knifepoint after agreeing to give a ride to a man and a woman. The man said he drove the two to Nederland and dropped them off in a dark area. They stole his wallet with cash, cell phone and watch.

The man called police about 9:30 p.m. Saturday from his apartment at Cypresswood, 1010 Highway 87 South. He told Officer L.T. Holland the two stopped him at the intersection of the apartment complex’s drive and Highway 87. He agreed to give the two a ride to an Orange business.

Once in the car, though, they both pulled out a knife and held them at his neck. They demanded he drive them to Nederland. Officer Holland reported the victim is not familiar with the area, so the two robbers gave him directions.

When he dropped them off, they demanded he give them his money and that’s when he turned over the items. He then drove back to Orange and called police.

A number of antique items, including about 100 hats in boxes, were stolen during a break-in during the weekend at a business in the 300 block of North 10th Street. Orange police said the owner reported the burglary Sunday and said the break-in was sometime between Thursday and 11 a.m. Sunday. The burglar got inside through a window and then unlocked the front door.

The missing items, valued at more than a $1,000, included antique shelves with carvings, the hats and boxes, an antique Coca Cola cooler, two trays of various jewelry, and a small white vintage lame with multi-colored swirls.

Anyone with information about the items should contact the Orange Police Department at 409-883-1026.

A woman Sunday morning was knocked to the ground as a man kicked in the door to her apartment in the 3333 Ridgemont Drive complex. The man, who she had seen before, stole her phone.

She called police after running to her sister’s house. She said she heard knocking on the door about 5 a.m., but she did not get up. Then about 6:20 a.m., she heard someone kicking the door. She said she listened for two or three minutes and then decided she could open the door and run away.

When she opened the door, the man threw her to the ground before she could run away. Police reported the door and frame were cracked and the damage was estimated at about $140.
