The Chevron station at 23rd Street and Interstate 10 was robbed at gunpoint at 10am Tuesday morning. Twelve hours earlier, two people with handguns robbed the Dollar General Store on North Highway 87 near Allie Payne Road.
Orange Detective Captain Robert Enmon said investigators don’t know if there’s any connection, but the Chevron station robber was seen driving a small, four-door silver car away. A similar car was seen driving away from an armed robbery July 1 at the Chevron on FM 1130. That robbery was also during the daytime.
Captain Enmon is asking people with home surveillance cameras who live along 23rd Street in the Charlemont neighborhood to check the recordings from about 9:40 to 10 a.m. Anyone capturing the small silver car, which might be a Kia, should save the recording and contact detectives at 883-1095.
The robber at the 23rd Street Chevron Tuesday morning is described as a black man in his early to mid 20s wearing sagging black jeans. He was about 5-feet-7-inches tall with a thin build and short curly hair. His face was covered by a bandana.
Captain Enmon said the gunman came into the store and demanded money. The clerk gave him money and the man left. He was seen driving southbound on 23rd Street after leaving the store.
The Dollar General was robbed by two armed people about 10 Monday night. Captain J.P. Burns said one robber was described as wering a black jacket and a gray hoodie. The other was wearing a silver, black and white camouflage-style jacket with a hood. Both ran away from the store after getting cash from the register.
