A man will serve 45 years in prison after pleading guilty to murder for strangling and beating the mother of his two children.
41-year-old Jorge Elizalde Sanchez pleaded guilty Friday before 260th State District Judge Buddie Hahn. He killed 28-year-old Kara Marie Willingham in their Bridge City residence early in the morning of September 14 last year.
Police at the time said their children, ages 6 and 3, slept while their mother was killed. An affidavit of probable cause said he believed she was having an affair and became angry when he found a photograph of another man on her cellphone.
The affidavit said he told Bridge City police he hit her and then choked her. Her cause of death was listed as asphyxiation by strangulation.
The family lived in a garage apartment at Willingham’s grandfather’s house on Mary Street in Bridge City. Her body was found the evening of September 14.
Sanchez had taken the two children with him when he left the house, but police later found him driving with the children.
Family members gave victim impact statements during the sentencing hearing before Judge Hahn.
