Usually summer is a busy month for construction and remodeling projects, but July this year was slow for building permits issued by the city of Orange.
The largest permit was for a new house worth $253,614 being built in the 6400 block of Steeple Chasse Drive. Only two commercial permits were issued, one for a wall with a door worth $1,800 for a beauty supply business at 1409 Green Avenue. Also, a business at 1706 10th Street had a $1,500 permit for improvements to an HVAC system.
The city issued seven permits for demolitions at 1508 Sabine Street, 1205 Fourth Street, 2713 Enner Street, 307 Morreell Street, 20 Putnam Drive, 2002 Sixth Street and 3632 Bowling Lane.
In the multi-family residential category, the Heritage Center at Division Avenue and College Street is replacing two sets of exterior metal stairs at a cost of $19,141 with Jack Elliott as the contractor.
Three homeowners received permits for remodeling and repair projects valued at a total of $30,860, with one alone worth $20,000. In addition, two residences are getting new roofs valued at a total of $31,760.
Other residential permits included one for a storage building at $1,600, four for new air conditioning or heating systems worth $15,390, and a new above-ground swimming pool worth $5,900.
