Sales Tax Up In Orange, Pinehurst

Earlier this month, Pinehurst City Administrator Robbie Hood praised department head Harry Vine for getting adjustments for businesses paying sales taxes.

The effort is now showing up in the monthly payments from the state comptroller’s office. Pinehurst recently received $12,544 in sales tax revenue for the month of June. The comptroller’s office says the monthly payment is 43.7 percent more than the June 2016 payment of $8,758.

For the year to date, Pinehurst has now received $67,887, up $24,905 from the first seven months of last year.

Pinehurst has the same zip code as the city of Orange and sometimes the state comptroller’s office credits Orange with sales taxes collected in Pinehurst.

Orange County is down 8.5 percent for the year to date. The county for June received $431,220 and is at $2.97 million for the year to date. Last year, the county had collected $3.25 million for the year to date.

Other sales tax figures for local cities are:

Bridge City:  $139,958 for the month and $946,626 for the year to date, a decrease of nearly 7 percent for the year.

Orange:  $408,395 for the month and $2.98 million for the year, up 10.25 percent for the year.

Vidor:  $282,762 for the month and $1.765 million for the year to date, a decrease of 1.3 percent.

West Orange:  $97,710 for the month and $776,000 for the year to date, decrease of 0.9 percent.

Orange County Emergency Services District 3 (Little Cypress Fire and Rescue):  $15,895 for the month and $120,873 for the year.
