Commissioners Approve OCAA Funds

The Commissioners Court approved a resolution Monday that will provide the Orange Community Action Association, better known as Meals on Wheels, with funds for this fiscal year.  County Judge Brint Carlton explained that the $40,000 allocated for Meals on Wheels matches what the county previously supplied the program in kind with the use of vans and drivers.

Last year the county changed from in kind allocations to providing grant funds to Meals on Wheels.  This allows Meals on Wheels to then apply for matching grant funds from the Texas Department of Agriculture which basically doubles the funds contributed by Orange County.  “Really we’re paying about what we would pay through the operation of the vans and providing drivers, but it actually is a net gain for them,” Carlton stated.

Commissioners approved amendments worked up by Assistant County Attorney Doug Manning for ten county contracts.  One of those amendments was for Ashbritt, the contractor which is overseeing the removal of debris from Harvey in the county.  Another contract with Tricon Inc. was due to expire about the time Harvey hit Orange County.  The Court approved extending that contract to October 17, 2017.
