People who use Sunset Drive should not give up on the repaving project that has been stalled almost two months. Orange City Manager Dr. Shawn Oubre this week said the company that owns the natural gas line under the road will be moving the line soon.
The new paving for the blacktop road started July 5 and ended that morning. The contractor for the city hit a natural gas line and the project stopped.
Oubre said no one knew the gas line was about an inch below the road. The repaving includes tearing out the old asphalt and then laying new layers. The contractor had started on 28th Street, which is a block long and connects Sunset Drive with Park Avenue.
The contractor hit the gas line after turning the corner onto Sunset near the Sunset Grove Apartments. No injuries or damage were reported, but the paving project stopped.
