Orange City Councilor Brad Childs will be representing the city on the Orange County Economic Development Corporation advisory board.

The City Council Tuesday voted to buy another advisory seat on the county EDC with a $5,000 contribution. The city also has its own economic development corporation.

Childs is the Orange Single Member District 2 councilor representing the Little Cypress area. He will join City EDC Director Jay Trahan on the county advisory board.

The current county EDC board of directors is Pinehurst City Manager Robbie Hood as president, Bridge City City Manager Jerry Jones as vice president, West Orange City Administrator Mike Stelly, Orange County Commissioner Johnny Trahan, Orange County Commissioner Robert Viator, Pinehurst City Councilor Dan Mohon, Bridge City City Councilor Terri Gautier, Vidor Mayor Cathy Nagel, and West Orange Councilor Randy Branch.

The board of directors is from cities or entities that have contributed to the county EDC based on population.

Advisory members also pay for membership, but not per capital. The advisory members, besides Trahan, are Dr. Thomas Johnson of Lamar State College-Orange, Keith Wallace of the Port or Orange, Ann Galassi of the Sabine River Authority, Vidor City Councilor Angela Jordan, and Orangefield ISD Superintendent Dr. Stephen Patterson.

Also at the meeting, At-Large Councilor Bill Mello attended for the first time in a month. Mello has been undergoing treatment for a brain tumor. He came into the council chambers in a wheelchair, but stood for the prayer and the pledge of allegiance. He left after an hour, apologizing that he had another treatment scheduled. He thanked everyone for their prayers and particularly thanked Councilor Terrie Salter for checking on him and bringing him gifts.
