The Orange City Council will begin the basics of spending $8 million in general obligation bonds at the council meeting Tuesday.
The council had agreed to spend at least half of the money on street repairs. Public Works Director Jim Wolf is presenting a list of 35 streets and their status for needing work.
In addition, the council will vote on spending $19,000 for the engineering services of EPIC for designing the installation of an emergency generator at the new city hall on 16th Street.
The council will also vote on hiring Architectural Alliance of Beaumont to design an outdoor pavilion at the boat ramp.
The council will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the council chambers next to the the Orange Public Library.
The city’s Economic Development Corporation board of directors will meet before the council at 5 p.m. The council will hear a request from Boardwalk Grille owner Jake Lemoine to extend the beginning date to for construction on a new restaurant along the boardwalk in downtown.
He is asking for a new start of construction date of September 1 with a completion date of March 1, 2020.
It is the second time he has asked for an extension of the construction dates. The EDC last year agreed to reimburse him up to $200,000 in infrastructure costs to build the new restaurant.
He is currently operating the Boardwalk Grille in the old Southern Printers Building on Fifth Street. The planned new restaurant will be across the street on vacant land along the city’s riverwalk.
