A homeowner Sunday evening held a man and woman at gunpoint after seeing them on a surveillance property camera trying to take a tire off a vehicle. Orange police went to the 900 block of Burton Avenue about 6:15 p.m. after getting a 911 call for a theft in progress.
Officer L.T. Holland said when he arrived, he saw a man pointing a gun at another man and woman. The man with gun the lowered it when he saw the officer and handed the weapon to the police.
The homeowner said he was in his house nearby when he saw the surveillance of the two on a lot he owned. He could see the man holding a tire iron and kneeling next to a vehicle tire. The property had been marked with “Private Property” and “No Trespassing” signs.
Officer Holland reported he smelled marijuana in the car the man and woman had been driving. A search of the car turned up two plastic baggies of marijuana.
34-year-old Joey Emanuel Childress of Beaumont was arrested for criminal trespassing and Class B misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
The woman, Ernestine Lavice Thibodeaux of Beaumont, was arrested for two misdemeanor warrants issued from Pinehurst Municipal Court.
A patrol officer at 10 Friday night heard gunshots in the Navy Park neighborhood and people immediately called 911. The officer said he was directed to the 200 block of Dewey Avenue.
On Monday, Detective Captain Robert Enmon said a physical fight between a 26-year-old man and a 25-year-old man had been going on. The 25-year-old fired a gun into the ground to stop the fight. The other man refused to file a charge and no one was arrested.
A 30-year-old man was arrested early Sunday morning for driving while intoxicated on what police think is PCP. A woman passenger in his car was arrested for possession of a controlled substance after officers found her with a cigarette pack that included two “wet” cigarettes soaked in liquid PCP.
Police stopped the Buick about 12 a.m. Sunday in the area of Strickland Drive and Park Avenue. Officer N.R. Medina reported he saw the Buick cross into the opposite lane of traffic on Park Avenue and almost hit another car head-on.
When the officer stopped the Buick, the driver had a “blank stare.” Medina said he could smell PCP when the driver rolled down the window.
30-year-old Stephen Michael Trotti of Orange was arrested for DWI. 36-year-old Lakeisha Shonetta Brady of Orange was arrested for possession of a controlled substance. Both were taken to the Orange County Jail.
