Orange County Health Inspector James Scales had 22 food business inspections during August with eight having perfect scores. The lowest score was an 86 at Daily Donuts in Bridge City.
The perfect scores went to First Presbyterian Day School in Orange, Hampton Inn in Orange, Brick and Barley in Orange, Walmart in Bridge City, Gator’s Nest in Bridge City, Bridge City High School, Fastlane on North Main Street in Vidor, and Misson Grounds Coffee Shop in Vidor.
Three businesses had pre-opening inspections with no score given. They were Real Souther Cooking, 1111 Green Avenue in Orange; City Mart, 2379 West Roundbunch Road in Bridge City, and Peggy Sue’s Ice Cream Truck.
Scores and demerits for the businesses are:
Daily Donuts, 2580 Texas Avenue in Bridge City: 86. Inspector found sausage, boudain, and eggs out of proper temperatures. No record was kept on times for holding sausage, boudain, and eggs out at room temperatures. Raw dough was stored inside trash bags (inspector made immediate disposal). Dates were needed on products inside coolers. Spider webs were throughout the store. Same pan line was used mutliple times to bake kolaches. Handwashing signs were needed at handwashing stations.
LCM Mart, 8270 North Highway 87 in Orange: 87. Inspector pulled several expired foods from shelves. Mold was on slushie machines. Inside of cappuccino machine needed to be cleaned. Chemicals were stored near food storage in deli department. “High amount” of flies were in store. Vents at Vent-a-Hood and outside of storagge shelves needed to be cleaned. Ceiling tiles were molded. “Lots of trash and rubbish” was outside the back door. The current health inspection report was not posted in front.
Star Stop, 1101 Green Avenue in Orange:88. Inspector pulled several expired foods. Mold was on the drink dispensers and in the ice machine. The inside of the cappuccino machine neeed to be cleaned. Ice scoop was between two nails on the wall. Store name and address were needed on bags of ice being sold. Drinks were stored on the floor. Inside storage cabinets needed to be cleaned of old foods and trash. Lights needed inside employee restroom. Ceiling tiles were damaged.
The Donut Palace, 4455 North Main Street in Vidor: 88. Inspector found eggs, sausage, and boudain out of proper temperatures. No record was kept of times for holding eggs, sausage, and boudain out at room temperatures. Shop did not have food handler certificates. Dates were needed on products. Employee food and drinks were stored improperly. Floors needed to be cleaned.
Lone Star Grocery, 3665 North Main Street in Vidor: 90. Inspector pulled several expired foods from shelves. Molded sandwiches were inside reach-in cooler. Dates were needed on products insides coolers. Ceiling tiles in back storage area were damaged. Drinks were stored on the floor. Back storage room needed to be cleaned and organized.
Flying J Travel Plaza, 7112 Interstate 10 West in Orange: 90. Inspector pulled several expired foods from shelves. A soaked towel and lots of water were inside the walk-in cooler. A missing light shield was in the walk-in cooler. The inside of the cappuccino machine needed to be cleaned. Floors in the back storage room needed to be cleaned. Walls and basboards in the back storage room needed to be repaired.
Best Price Motel, 2610 Lutcher Drive in Orange: 90. Sausage was out at room temperature. No time was kept on holding the sausage at room temperatures. No certified food manager was on staff. A thermometer was needed inside the coolers and freezers.
Dollar General, 385 Texas Avenue in Bridge City: 93. Inspector pulled several expired foods from shelves. Spider webs were throughout the store. Shelves inside the milk cooler needed to be cleaned of old foods. Back storage room neede to be cleanedd and organized. Current food service permit and current health inspection report were not posted in front of the store.
Waffle House, 125 East Freeway in Vidor: 93. Hot water did not reach required temperatures. Plumber was called to repair. Reach-in cooler was dripping waer from the motor. Dates were needed on products insie coolers and freezers. Storage shelves inside reach-in coolers were rusted.
Martha’s, 1609 16th Street in Orange: 94. Dates were needed on products inside coolers and freezers. Doors on reach-in freezers were rusted. Ants were inside the kitchen arera. Grease on on the ground in the back area of the restaurant.
Bar-B-Que Depot, 110 Old Highway 90 East in Vidor: 96. Motor inside the reach-in cooler was dripping water. Storage shelves were rusted and walls were damaged.
Snappy’s Exxpress Mart, 3145 Texas Avenue in Bridge City: 99. Ceiling tiles in back storage room were missing.
JB’s Bar-B-Que, 5750 Old Highway 90 West in Orange: 99. Floor tiles were damaged.
