The Vidor Fire Department is warning people to be careful about finding and opening metal barrels. Chief Robert Smith said three barrels that floated around after Imelda have been found and turned over to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
One of the barrels contained a fuel, another had a chemical manufactured in Germany, and a third was not labeled.
Smith is concerned someone might open a found barrel that contains a hazardous chemical. Anyone finding an unknown barrel should contact the Vidor Fire Department at 409-769-6241 or 409-769-8218, or notify their local law enforcement agency.
