The Bridge City school board race drew the most early voters for Saturday’s elections. Early voting ended on Tuesday and the district had a total of 938 early votes.
The Bridge City school board race has three contested contests. Incumbent Rebecca Rutledge is running for Place 3 against Bryan Gremillion. For Place 4, incumbent Thad Hill is being challenged by Bryant Champagne. Incumbent Jerry McInnis is facing Brandy Slaughter for Place 5.
The West Orange-Cove school board also has contested races and had 612 early votes cast.
The only incumbent running for the three open at-large seats is Linda Platt-Bryant. Other candidates are Demetrius Hunter, Bonnie Moses and former trustees Tony Dallas and Ricky Jacobs. The three getting the most votes will win the open positions. Incumbent Reverend Hardy O’Neal did not file to run and incumbent Bryan “Chop” Thomas Muhammad withdrew.
The Bridge City City Council race had a total of 640 early votes.
Mayor Kirk Roccaforte has served the maximum terms in the position and cannot run for mayor. David Rutledge is running for mayor unopposed. Roccaforte instead is running for the Place 2 council seat and is facing Carl Harbert. In Place 4, incumbent Eric Andrus is being challenged by Phillip Todaro Jr. For the Place 6 position, incumbent Danny Cole is running against Kevin Mott and Lucy Fields.
The Orange City Council has only one contested race and that is for single-member district No. 4. Only registered voters living in the district may vote and a total of 203 voted early. Incumbent Mary McKenna is being challenged by Annette Pernell. Three years ago, Pernell was the incumbent and lost the seat to McKenna.
West Orange and Pinehurst were able to cancel city council elections because of no contested races. In addition, the Little Cypress-Mauriceville CISD, the Orange County Port and Navigation District and the Orange County Drainage District canceled elections for the same reason.
