October marks the beginning of a new year for the Orange County Economic Development Corporation (EDC). The Commissioners Court approved the amended by-laws and amended interlocal agreement for the EDC Tuesday.
Executive Director of the Orange County EDC Jessica Hill is pleased with the new direction her office is going. The municipalities that left the EDC last year have returned and some new entities have been added. Hill exclaimed, “We’re looking forward to approving the new directors and moving in a new direction with a new strategic plan and bringing some great things to Orange County.”
The Court heard from Steve Bird with the law firm that handles collecting delinquent taxes for the county. Bird said over 9800 accounts owe approximately $3.3 million in delinquent taxes in the county. His office works to collect the taxes from those accounts owing significant amounts.
Lynda Gunstream the County Tax Assessor-Collector gave her end of the fiscal year report to the Commissioners. Gunstream stated that her office collected 97.7 percent of the taxes owed which meets their goal of 97 percent collections and is slightly below the level collected last fiscal year.
County Clerk Brandy Robertson was approved to purchase two printers for her office at a cost of just over $2200. The purchase price is actually below the original quote she received in July.
Sixteen pieces of Road and Bridge equipment were approved to be moved to surplus by the Commissioners. County Engineer Clark Slacum said the items are not operational. Purchasing Agent Connie Cassidy prepared a 25-page list of items, many of them surplus, the county plans to sell at an upcoming on-line auction. The date of the auction is to be determined.
Judge Brint Carlton said a future Commissioners Court will be held at 6pm in the evening so people who work during the day can attend. They’re also planning a town hall type meeting in the near future.
