What’s going on at the “old Cody’s” near the corner of 16th and I-10?
Yes the building is being torn down and land is being cleared. TxDOT has been in the process of connecting the service road from 16th Street to Allie Payne on both the north and south side of I-10.
Orange Economic Development Director Jay Trahan said Jeff Mallett owns the land and contracted C&C Demolition to clear the area. However Mallett hasn’t announced what he’s going to do with the property.
There were plans for a retail area that would include Two Amigos Mexican Restaurant, the last tenant in the 16th Street building. But they have moved to the other side of the interstate. There have been rumors of a Chick-Fil-A and others, as well as Walgreens moving closer to I-10. But as of now they’re just rumors.
