A coalition opposing construction of the Vidor Loop 299 will have a public information meeting Tuesday evening in Vidor. The meeting will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express, 20691 Interstate 10.
A spokeswoman from the National Parks Conservation Association said the proposed loop will pass within a few hundred feet of where the Big Thicket National Preserve begins.
The meeting will talk about the costs, including an estimated $30 million that Orange County will have to contribute, along with the impacts on Vidor business. In addition, the coalition said the loop will be elevated and constructed on fill. The roadway will create a damming effect on drainage in the area.
The coalition includes the National Parks Conservation Association, Big Thick Trust, Big Thicket Association, Southeast Texas Clean Air and Water, and Texas Conservation Alliance.
