A 3-year-old girl was reunited with her family Saturday morning after drivers alongside Interstate 10 saw her standing by the highway waving at traffic.

Orange police reported they received a 9-1-1 call at 7:19 a.m. Saturday after a couple stopped and picked up the child in the 800 block of Lutcher Drive. Detective Captain Robert Enmon said the girl was cold, wet and shaking. She spoke only Spanish. Other motorists also stopped and one spoke Spanish. A Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper kept the girl warm in her patrol car.

After being able to communicate, the girl was able to show officers where she lived. The house was near the interstate. Captain Enmon said the babysitter and others in the house were asleep and not aware the child was gone.

He said the Texas Child Protective Services office was notified and determined it was an unfortunate incident. The child stayed with her family.
